Good Days Out Guide

Days Out Below are some of our favourite haunts. Please bear in mind that we have two small children, so we have this bias.

Colwell Bay 5 min walk
Coastal Walks. Good tea & food.

Totland Bay 10 mins
Is beautifully sandy when the tide is out. A tide chart is usually in the Bungalow or available in the chandlers in Yarmouth.

Compton Bay 15 mins
This is our favourite sandy beach. The NT car park is free to members. There are steps leading down to the beach, but once you are there it is fabulous. Great for body boarding, windsurfing and kite surfing too.

Freshwater Leisure Centre 10 mins
Excellent facilities. Has a toddler session & kids splash time on a Sunday afternoon. Has crèche facilities available on certain mornings! Half price tickets are available form the office at Brambles Chine.

Yarmouth Castle & Town 10 mins
Yarmouth is a beautiful town and harbour.

The Needles 15 mins
Is a bit overpriced and over rated, but the glass blowing and different coloured sands are fun.

Fort Victoria 15 mins walk
This is a lovely leisurely walk (15 mins) that you can do straight from the site, with a nice resturant at the end of it, which does fabulous brunches. The miniature railway is fascinating even for non-railway enthusiasts!

Mottistone Manor NT 20 mins
Beautiful Gardens. Great cream tea, & we managed to entertain the chidren there with a flower pot man search.

Isle Of Wight Pearl 20 mins
The cream tea here is almost as good as Mottistone manor! A good wet weather activity.

Colemans Animal Farm 20 mins
Fantastic hands on for kids. Particulalry good during lambing season as you get to cuddle & feed the lambs. A little on the pricey side!

Chessell Pottery 20 mins
Great wet weather activity. Beautiful pottery that you can decorate. Good tea shop. Give yourselves time for the pottery to be glazed if you want to take it home with you & avoid postage costs!

Carisbrooke Castle 30 mins
This is fun day out, a bit pricey but well worth a visit. The 8 bells pub in the town does good food in the garden too.

Black Gang Chine 30 mins
Fabulous for pre-teen children, and for those who appreciate beautiful views. Good value as you can return free of charge within four days.

Robin Hill Country Park 35 mins
This works better for families with older kids in our opinion.

Flamingo Park 35 mins
A cracking day out, fun for everyone. Take a picnic and enjoy eating it under the weeping willows or with the albino wallabies.

Ventnor Botanical Gardens 40 mins
Free apart from car parking. Very beautiful gardens with an art gallery, coffee shop , excellent swings & slides. Highly recommended.

Model Village Goshill 40 mins
A great day out and well worth a visit.

Amazon World 40 mins
Great zoolological park & play area. Not quite a whole day out and a tad expensive.

Ryde Beaches 50 mins
Wonderful sand. We particularly like Appleby Park which is down the far end, as it again has a fabulous play area.

Osborne House
Osborne House is a fantastic place to go. Beautiful gardens, the Swiss cottage is great and you can often see red squirrels too. One of our guests wrote, "It is also very wheelchair friendly, the staff were wonderful and the person "pushing" gets in free."

Brading Experience
One of our guests wrote, "The Brading Experience was also very good on a wet day for slow moving people. Probably a bit more hectic during the summer."
